ROLE: Senior UX & UI Designer
OVERVIEW:
A dedicated initiative aimed at continually enhancing the user experience of the LOCKLY® app, ensuring that every interaction is intuitive, seamless, and enjoyable for our users.

LOCKLY® App Features Overview
-
Multi-Property Management: Designed to manage all Lockly smart locks across different homes within one app, ensuring a centralized and user-friendly experience for homeowners.
-
Remote Control & Security: Users can lock or unlock their doors from anywhere, with features like revocable eKeys and eBadges for secure and controlled access, catering to both security and convenience.
-
Voice Integration & Status Monitoring: Voice control with Alexa and lock status monitoring, including battery levels, empowers users with real-time insights and control, supporting seamless automation and peace of mind.

In order to improve the overall experience of the LOCKLY® app upon joining the team, I led several changes to the existing design. I prioritised convenience, flexibility, and security to meet the diverse needs of users, enhancing usability across different environments.
Re-categorized User Groups during Access Creation Process
During the access creation process, LOCKLY categorizes users into various groups with specific roles and permissions. These groups may include owners, family members, guests, and temporary users, each with varying levels of access control. Each group offers tailored security settings based on user needs.

Access Management
Multiple access methods can be created for different use scenarios.

Interaction & UI Updates
In addition to the continuous effort in every released update, I had the opportunity to optimise the app's experience in many ways.
01
A Smarter Look and Enhanced Experience
-
New theme color: I redesigned the interface using lighter tones from the brand's color palette to create a more inviting, refreshing, and user-friendly look.
-
Smarter information structure for enhanced experience: The structures throughout the app were redesigned to better reflect the hierarchy of information, using information grouping and incorporating clear visual cues with new experience to guide users and highlight potential interactions.
-
New content structure and navigational interaction
were added to make viewing 'device list' more efficient and convenient. Properties are displayed through a dropdown menu. Selecting a property from the expanded dropdown menu will take you to the selected property's screen. All rooms under the selected property are displayed at the top of the 'device list', and users only need to scroll left and right to view different rooms.

(Hover your mouse above to see the added scrolling effect when using different rooms within the same property.)
02
Clean and Consistent Design
To provide enhanced usability and experience, major functions' interfaces design are updated to be clean, minimalistic with consistency.
-
Updated font styles and reduced text for easier reading.

-
Redesigned device listing.
-
Secondary information is hidden from primary listing page to avoid visual clutter.
-
In order to make users feel seen and valued, a personalized welcome message was added on the home screen to offer a sense of familiarity and facilitate engagement.
